I Can See It

Spring is coming!
It’s showing its face
Thursday’s temperature
will be seventy-eight!
My hearty perennial
is bleeding its hearts
Soon the boys’ bedtime
won’t even be dark
We’ll plant a garden
and watch it grow
Well, the weeds at least
We don’t weed or hoe
Our tomatoes give fruit
that we neglect to pick
until they are rotten
and might make us sick
Zucchini gets lost
in the fronds of its vine
It grows mega-sized
In little to no time
The weeds overcome
the kale, squash and berries
Our thumbs are not green
Our plants must be wary
But fear not my dear
for within our powers
is not growing food
but flourishing flowers!
