Election

I just need to get my thoughts out here. I’ve been holding back a lot of stuff that I want to say for fear of angering people or alienating people. First and foremost, I want to say congratulations to President Joe Biden. I didn’t think the day would ever come that we would see Trump leave. Frankly, we may still not see that day for a while. There are a few things I need to get off my chest.

Election

I didn’t believe that the election would come out in this favor. I sincerely hoped and prayed that it would, not just for myself but for my POC and LGTBQ friends and family. Above all else, however, I wanted a fair election. I truly believe that this election was fair—in that both sides are probably at least a little dirty—but if it comes out that it was not and Biden won dirty, I don’t want him to be my president. I don’t think that is the case though. Out of the two of them, which one do you think fights dirtiest?

Elections are usually declared on election night. But that doesn’t mean the counting is done. Elections have always had counting after election day, we just don’t hear about it often because it’s not often this close. Secondly, Trump encouraged his voters to go to the polls and not use the mail, so it is absolutely not surprising that the votes rolling in from mail in ballots are predominantly for Joe Biden. To my knowledge, none of the policies were changed especially for this election, just that the volume of mail in ballots is much higher.

That Single Issue

Part of the reason that Trump won in 2016 is that single issue: abortion. The abortion issue caused a lot of people to vote for him when he ran on the pro-life platform. He scrambled up the backs of good Christian voters, despite not having a single Christian thought in his head or bone in his body. I understand where the pro-life Christians are coming from because who is pro-abortion? No one. No one is pro-abortion. Pro-choice people are not pro-abortion. I am pro-choice, but have issues with abortion. It’s a sticky wicket because you never know someone’s circumstances. I don’t like abortion, but why on God’s green Earth would the government have the right to tell someone what to do with their body?

It’s verified that abortion rates went down when a Democrat was in office for the past few Democratic presidents. That is because they support programs and public health policies that support women’s health before, during and after birth.

So Christian voters, wouldn’t you want policies that help the disenfranchised before they ever need an abortion? That’s what Jesus would do. I don’t say that disrespectfully. I am a Christian voter. But I don’t believe that Trump has ever been remotely Christian and I one hundred percent believe that he didn’t believe in his own policies.

LGBTQ/POC/Women

When Ruth Bader Ginsberg died, I know a lot of my diverse groups of friends worried that this would mean an end to the rights they’d fought so hard to achieve. A second Trump term might not have caused them to lose these rights, but the double whammy of ABC in the supreme court and Trump in the White House had caused a lot of my friends severe anxiety. And rightfully so. That is a huge part of the reason I wanted a Joe Biden victory.

All in all, I am in shock. I am shook. I cannot believe this actually happened. I hope that the votes STILL being counted are being counted fairly and accurately. Love to all. Peace out.

My reasons.
