Church Playground

I want to take a moment to publicly (well, as publicly as my little blog is) thank Chris Kelly and Rock 92. Chris Kelly, a personal friend of mine, now that we work out together on Saturdays, took it upon himself (with a small amount of prompting seeing as he initially volunteered) to donate to our church’s playground fund. The reason I’m including Rock 92 in my thanks is simply because they’ve given me hours of entertainment, whether listening in the mornings while making breakfast or more lately, on my way to work. I enjoy all four of them. Demm is witty and smart and his jokes make me snort. Biggie is hysterical, his dry and sarcastic delivery often makes me actually laugh out loud. Dave’s commentary during stories makes me giggle. And of course, Kelly’s goofy charm is part of what makes the show great.

Veering off to the topic of playgrounds, I don’t know how many of you realize how much a proper playground of the type you find in schools actually costs. To get what we want–and not even all that we want–we need just under $65,000. This doesn’t include swings, which we are saving space for. It includes a large climbing/sliding structure for school-age kids and a separate climbing/sliding structure for 2-5 year olds. In the future, we plan to raise money for swings. We currently have $60,000 and are trying to find funding for the fencing or EWF (engineered wood fiber) that we must have. This would free some of the money we already have to go toward the structure for 2-5 year olds.

I have readers from many places and I’m not going to ask you all for money. I am, however, putting this information out there just in case someone wants to donate money so my almost 2-year-old will have a playground to play on and won’t have to sit out while big brothers play. Look at that face:
