I am 1 in 5

In September of 2012, I received a heart. It was lavender and plush with a little ribbon on it. It came from Women’s Hospital. I still have it.

I had a miscarriage. Actually, I had three. Consecutively. I have written about it before, but now that I have three healthy boys, I feel that I have sort of forgotten about my miscarriages. Not forgotten, exactly. I just haven’t thought much about them since I’ve been so busy.

#miscarriagematters

My miscarriage matters and my lost babies matter. During this month, October-National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month-I will remember.

I will remember how excited I was when I saw those first two pink lines.

I will remember the month of morning sickness.

I will remember the crushing sense of loss as I bled at Women’s Hospital and clutched the plush heart.

I will remember the trepidation I felt when I got the next two positive tests.

I will remember the three tiny lives lost.

October is National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. Remember that one in five pregnancies can end in miscarriage. I challenge those who have had miscarriages to speak out, if they feel comfortable doing so. In raising awareness, perhaps we can prevent someone from feeling the loneliness associated with pregnancy and infant loss.
